Former U.S. President Barack Obama talked about the need for a global preparedness for an impending (potential) pandemic at a speech in Bethesda, Maryland in 2014. Unfortunately, this was at the height of the Ebola devastation in West Africa that claimed thousands of lives, and the Republican controlled Congress was naturally uninterested, since they did not see this as an American problem. That same lack of vision steeped in bigotry and debilitating ignorance is what led the Trump administration to dismantle the Pandemic Response Unit that had been put in place by the Obama administration.
